The Handmaiden movie is divided into three chapters. This movie’s main character is Kim Min-hee, who is known as Lady Hideko in this movie. This movie is about the plans of Count Fujiwara for seducing a Japanese heiress whose name is Lady Hideko by marrying her and commit her to an asylum in order to steal her inheritance. He hires a pickpocket named Sook-hee for becoming Hideko’s maid and encouraging Hideko to marry the Count.
The name of Hideko’s uncle is Kouzuki, and she lives with her uncle. Exchanging for a gold mine, he helped the Japanese take over his country. The main job of Sook-hee is to help Hideko prepare to read for Kouzuki’s guests. Hideko demands Sook-hee to sleep next to her after returning frustrated from a reading. For the married life with the Count, they make love under the pretext of preparing Hideko. At that time, Sook-hee starts expressing reluctance about the plan. Hideko and Fujiwara elope when Kouzuki leaves on business for a week. From Hideko’s 5 years old, her uncle teaching her to read sadistic pornography erotically.
We can see from the flashback that it degrades Hideko’s aunt’s sanity when he abuses a regime of psychological and physical. Kouzuki murdered Hideko’s aunt by using torture devices in the basement when she attempted to run away. But for going on the marriage, Sook-hee insists, and so that Hideko throws her from the room and tries to hang herself. But Sook-hee saves her, and they both admit to their plots. Sook-hee begins destroying the library when she showed the books Hideko was forced to read. Sook-hee’s friend Bok-soon poses as a firefighter to rescue Sook-hee after setting a fire at the asylum. Sook-hee and Hideko celebrate their newfound freedom, and then they make their love once again.
